Ed read Arabic as an undergraduate at SOAS, writing his dissertation on the reception of King Roger II of Sicily by Arabic historians. He graduated in 2020. In 2021, He enrolled on a two-year MPhil in Islamic Art and Architecture at the Khalili Research Centre in Oxford where he studies Persian alongside his degree. He is writing his thesis on medieval manuscripts of Jaḥiẓ’s Kitāb al-Ḥayawān. His other research interests include Islamic book production before the Mongol invasions, the tirāz textile industry in the medieval Mediterranean and illustrated bestiaries from the Mamlūk and Ilkhanid periods. Ed joined Invisible East in July 2022 to assist with the encoding of documents for their upload to the website.
