Meia Walravens is a visiting PhD student from the University of Antwerp. She is currently finishing her thesis in History, which examines the influence of kinship and intellectual networks over the diplomatic relations of the Bahmani Sultanate (1347-1527) in Deccan India. Meia specialises in reading and translating Persian and Arabic letters from fifteenth-century literary collections. Her publications include “Arabic as a Language of the South Asian Chancery: Bahmani Communications to the Mamluk Sultanate”.
During her time with the Invisible East programme, Meia will be involved in the organisation of a workshop on state papers and administrative documents from the premodern Islamic world.
