Ed Shawe-Taylor awarded Margaret B. Ševčenko Prize

We are delighted that this year's Margaret B. Ševčenko Prize has been awarded to the Invisible East Assistant Database Manager, Ed Shawe-Taylor. This annual prize is awarded by the Historians of Islamic Art Association (HIAA) to the best unpublished essay written by a junior scholar on any aspect of Islamic visual culture. Ed's essay titled "The Ambrosiana Kitāb al-Ḥayawān and the Baptistère de Saint Louis: Manuscripts, Metalwork and the Mamluk Court" initially formed part of his MPhil thesis. For further information and the panel's citation on the essay, please see: https://www.historiansofislamicart.org/opportunities/hiaa-prizes/the-mar...

Edward Shawe-Taylor completed his MPhil in 2023 with an IM Pei scholarship from the centre. He is currently a DPhil student working on Fatimid calligraphy at the Khalili Research Centre, with funding from the UK's Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC).

Many congratulations, Ed!
