The Invisible East team goes to AIS 2022
The team will take part in the 13th Biennial Iranian Studies Conference, in Salamanca (30 August to 2 September 2022)
Invisible East will be present at the 13th AIS Conference in Salamanca with a panel organised by the project's PI, Arezou Azad, and entitled "Documents and the Economics of Land in Ancient and Medieval Iran and Afghanistan". The panel will take place on the 1st of September.
The panel, chaired by Majid Montazer Mahdi and including Thomas Benfey, Arezou Azad, Pejman Firoozbakhsh, and Zhan Zhang, will address questions about the Islamic fiscal system, the practice of land economics, and drafting of contracts in the medieval Islamicate world (the programme of the panel can be seen below).
Invisible East will also be present at another panel, "Written in the Stars: The Kitāb-i Ḥakīm Jāmāsp and foretelling the future to make sense of the past in Mongol Iran", during which Majid M Mahdi will talk about Kitāb-i Ḥakīm Jāmāsp: a biblio-paleographical approach.
